The fan is what circulates hot air, so a fan that will not spin usually points to the same safety-switch or power problem as a dead unit — check the basket is fully seated and the outlet is live. A fan that suddenly becomes loud, rattling, or grinding is almost always lightweight food or debris hitting the blade near the top element, not a motor fault; unplug the unit, let it cool, and clear the debris.
If the fan is completely silent, the cause is usually a lack of power or an unengaged safety switch rather than a dead motor, because the fan only runs when the unit is powered and the basket is seated. Confirm the outlet is live, plug directly into the wall, and push the basket fully home. If the unit powers on and heats but the fan still does not run — which is rare — stop using it, since cooking without airflow can overheat the element; contact the manufacturer.
A fan that turns loud suddenly is usually mechanical interference, not a failing motor. Lightweight foods such as bread, wraps, herbs, or a loose sheet of parchment can be lifted by the airflow into the fan blade or top element, causing rattling or grinding. Unplug the fryer, let it cool, and check the top element area for stuck food or debris. Weigh light foods down with a rack and never add unweighted parchment to a running empty basket.
Not every rattle comes from the fan. A basket, crisper plate, or accessory tray that is not seated flush will vibrate against the housing and sound like a fan problem. With the unit unplugged and cool, remove and refit each part to make sure everything sits properly, and place the fryer on a level, stable surface to stop it buzzing against the worktop.
To clear debris near the fan and element, always unplug the fryer and let it cool fully first. Wipe the top element and visible fan area with a damp cloth, and use a soft brush for stuck bits. Never submerge the main body in water, spray liquid directly into the vents, or poke rigid metal tools into the fan. If something is lodged deep inside the housing, contact the manufacturer rather than dismantling the unit.
