Check the manual for your exact model before treating an odor as normal. A plastic or chemical smell alone does not establish that an appliance is safe. Stop using it and contact the manufacturer if the odor is strong, persistent, electrical, or accompanied by smoke or visible damage.
Philips publishes a model-scoped cleaning and empty-run procedure for a plastic odor; setup guidance must be checked for the exact appliance. The page lists NA555/00, NA330/00 and NA331/00 with further models available. It does not establish a universal burn-in or seasoning procedure, repair damaged coatings, or diagnose unexplained burning/electrical smells.

Follow the model's instructions for packaging removal, first-use cleaning, placement and ventilation clearance. Any initial empty run must use the manufacturer's specified procedure for that model; there is no universal temperature, duration or repetition count.
An odor or smoke color cannot diagnose a fault remotely. If there is an unexplained burning or electrical smell, smoke, melting, or plug/cord damage, stop using the appliance, switch it off and unplug it if safe to do so. Let it cool and contact the manufacturer before using it again. Do not open the housing or continue test runs.
Switch off, unplug and let the appliance cool before cleaning. Follow the manual for removable parts, the interior and heater area, including cleaning agents and dishwasher compatibility. Do not immerse the main unit or dismantle the housing. Do not heat lemon, vinegar, water or oil as a generic odor-removal treatment.
Oil does not repair flaking, peeling or damaged coatings. Stop using damaged parts and contact the manufacturer about an approved replacement. Do not try to hide an unexplained burning smell by seasoning or repeated empty heating.
