Air fry crab cakes at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, flipping gently at the 6-minute mark. They come out golden on both sides and heated all the way through without falling apart.
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray. Place crab cakes with at least an inch of space between them. Cook for 10–12 minutes, carefully flipping with a thin spatula at 6 minutes. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) and the exterior should be golden-brown.
Well-chilled crab cakes hold together better — refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes before air frying. Use a wide thin spatula for flipping and work quickly and decisively. Pre-formed store-bought crab cakes are more stable than homemade; if making from scratch, use enough binding (egg and breadcrumbs) and chill thoroughly.
Fresh or refrigerated crab cakes cook in 10–12 minutes at 375°F. Frozen crab cakes need 14–16 minutes at the same temperature — cook from frozen without thawing, and flip at the 8-minute mark. Add 2 minutes if they still feel cold in the center after the flip.
Classic accompaniments include remoulade sauce, tartar sauce, or a simple Old Bay aioli (mayo + Old Bay + lemon). Serve over a bed of greens or alongside a wedge salad. A squeeze of fresh lemon over the top before serving brightens the flavor significantly.
