Generously spray or brush the basket with oil before adding the soaked bread. The egg in the custard can bond to the basket if not well-greased. Silicone liners are an excellent option for French toast.
Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, and whipped cream. Also excellent with a side of crispy air-fried bacon. For a savory version, omit sugar and vanilla and use herbs and cheese instead.
